Jewelry Engraving Guide: How It Works and What to Write
Updated November 2026. By the Jewelry by Sweet Pea team, a family-owned jeweler since 2008.
The short answer: choose the engraving option on the product page of a piece we can engrave, pick the location and font, type your wording, and check the preview. A few words, a date or initials read best. Engraved items are final sale, so please check your spelling.

Engraving turns a piece of jewelry into something that's only theirs. On our website you choose the wording and font yourself and see a preview before you order.
How to order engraving
- Find a piece with the engraving option. It appears on the product page of pieces we can engrave. Leave it off and the piece ships blank.
- Choose where it goes, the font and your wording. The choices and the number of characters depend on the piece.
- Check the preview and the price. The engraving price is added before you check out, so there are no surprises.
- Approve your design at checkout. Please read your spelling carefully.
What happens after you order
- We review it with our engraver. Sometimes we'll email you a proof to approve before anything is engraved. If we do, please reply as soon as you can, because the piece waits for your approval.
- If your wording won't fit, we'll email you and ask for a shorter version.
- If the piece can't be engraved as ordered, we'll email you with your options: the piece without engraving with the engraving charge refunded, or a full refund.
- Engraving takes extra time. The product page shows the current timing, so allow for it if you need the piece by a certain date.
Tips for great engraving
- Keep it short. A few words, a date or initials read best in a small space.
- Check names and dates twice. Ask someone else to read it too.
- Write dates the way they'll read them, for example 6.14.2025 or June 14, 2025.
- Monogram order: a traditional three-letter monogram often has the last name's initial in the center, larger, with the first name's initial on the left and the middle name's on the right. If you're typing a monogram, check how the preview shows it.
- Small pieces need simple fonts. Very fine script is harder to read on a small surface.

Before you order
- Engraved items are final sale. We can't take them back for any reason, so please check your wording and size carefully. If the engraving differs from the design you approved, or the piece has a defect, we'll make it right.
- Engraving is offered on our website only. It isn't available on orders placed through Walmart, Amazon or eBay.
